Give the Gift of Adventure!

What better way to celebrate your rite of passage than surfing and hanging with friends in a tropical paradise.

Just imagine . . .

Waking up to the barks of Howler monkeys welcoming the sun, gearing up for a morning surf session, then horseback riding on the beach, zip-lining through the lush jungle canopy, racing along dirt trails on an ATV, or just enjoying a relaxing afternoon by the pool. All of this and so much more awaits you.

Nosara is known for its beautiful beaches, incredible surfing, and Bohemian yogi lifestyle.

Playa Guiones, the area’s longest and most popular beach and the location of our Costa Rica adventure, offers some of the most consistently reliable surf in the entire country, catering to experienced surfers and beginners alike.

If you love to surf, come and spend your days riding incredible overhead waves. If you’re a first-timer, gentle waist-high walls, a sandy bottom and uncrowded waters make this a great place to start honing your surfing skills.

If you want to combine your surf time with other activities, there are plenty of other fun things to enjoy too. Like boogie boarding, horseback riding, zip-lining and ATV adventuring.  And, of course, it wouldn’t be Nosara without your regular dose of yoga. The choices are endless, and it’s all Pura Vida.

Nosara beaches earned an Ecological Blue Flag for environmental cleanliness.

Costa Rica is famous for its eco-tourism, which leads the world in efforts to protect the environment.

Just up the coast from Playa Guiones is the acclaimed Ostional National Wildlife Refuge – the second largest nesting site in the world for Olive Ridley sea turtles.

Look inland and you encounter verdant green mountains and jungles inhabited by toucans and macaws, three-toed sloths and howler monkeys.

You’ll enjoy delicious food, warm people, comfy accommodations and an experience you’ll never forget. There’s simply no better place to relax, explore, adventure and create lasting friendships.

Surf Conditions & Safari Surf School

This is a surf trip, but if your kid just wants to hang at the beach with their friends in Costa Rica, don’t let the surfing stop them. Having said that, the water is warm, the conditions are perfect and we promise to have beginners up and riding.

We will have plenty of eyes, ears and hands on them! Our surf instructors are very well suited for new surfers. Our friends at Safari Surf School are "Stoke Certified" and the first sustainable surf school in the world! They chose Nosara to start their surf school many years ago because of it's safe beach and ideal surf conditions. They have provided the following information to help put your mind at ease:

The surf and location we are blessed to have in Nosara is ideal for all levels of surfing, but especially for beginners/intermediate levels. The bottom is an all sand bottom so no rocks or reef to contend with. In addition, the bottom contour is a very gradual descent and this provides a "softer" more forgiving type of wave. Not a "pounding" shore break type of wave.

The waves break outside about 75 to 100 yards at times and once they break they "roll" all the way to the shore. So if for some reason the waves are too big or the conditions are not right, we can go half way out and still get into the oncoming whitewater waves that reform and break again where guests can get 50-yard rides all the way up to the sand. Going half way out, guests are still able to stand on the bottom and have their heads above water.

Also, with this type of bottom contour (flat bottom), there are little to no rip currents on this beach. There can be side currents on occasion with larger swells, but nothing that can sweep guests out to sea and no under tow as well. It's really the ideal environment for a person to learn how to surf!

All of Safari Surf School instructors are ISA (International Surfing Association) Level 2 surf coaches. In order to get that accreditation, they are all required to have up to date lifeguard/water safety certifications as well. Safari Surf School staff are also certified in CPR. So the question of safety? Your son or daughter will be in the best hands possible! Safari Surf gets somewhere in the 70-75% range of absolute beginner surfers so they are very well adept at handling beginner surfers.

The surf has to be pretty huge in order not to surf out at Guiones so that is rare. Even when it's big, 95% of the time we can conduct the lessons on the inside with the whitewater. If by chance the surf and conditions are too big and nasty you can always postpone a surf session and double up the following day.

Below is a basic description of Safari Surf School's 5 surf levels. We will be sure to get this information from each kid before the trip to ensure they are properly supported.

Have been introduced to basics of "pop-up" technique, water safety / ocean awareness, the "Turtle Roll", surf stance (Goofy or Regular foot), white water rides.

Level 3

Level 4
